This morning we are at anchor of the island of Elba - Napoleon’s exile. The weather is a little different, some clouds are around and wind is 15 kms per hour and temperature at 25 degrees, very pleasant. We take our time again this morning and are ready to disembark by 10.15. It is a shuttle so we have to obtain a shuttle ticket and then wait to be called. We get called at 10.35 and it is a packed shuttle, it is at least a 10 min ride to the landing area. At least we are beside an open window and have a lovely breeze coming through.
On landing we obtain a map, the sky has cleared and it is becoming quite warm. We head off to Napoleon’s house but we have been told it is not open on Tuesdays, but we still want to see it from the outside. It is quite a steep walk, but it is a flat surface with minimum steps. On our way there we see lots of scenery, narrow streets, an old fort, a school and great views of the harbour and surrounding area. There is some art on the walls of houses, and the colours are varied. After reaching Napoleon’s house, which is quite high up we have to make our way down. We successfully make our way down and are in the marina area. There are some lovely boats docked here. In particular Skyler and Endless Summer two very luxurious motor yachts that are available for charter at US$199, 000 and 250,000 euros respectively for a week!
It was starting to get hot and there was a cold beer calling out for us back on board so we return to the ship at 1 pm. We really enjoyed our time on Elba.
