This morning we have our balcony breakfast scheduled for 8 am. We wake up and it is only 28 degrees. However there is a really strong wind around 20 kms per hour blowing, so breakfast will be inside. It arrives just after 8 and the waiter is very friendly and sets up our tables inside. Just when I think all the food has arrived he brings in more.! We have fried eggs and bacon (me) and an omelette. This is followed by an egg and bacon quiche with cooked tomato and salad, pineapple juice, a fruit plate of cantaloupe, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. There is also a plate each of smoked salmon, cream cheese, onion and tomato. Then there is a plate of toasted brioche buns, and a plate of danish pastries, not to mention a half bottle of champagne!
We pass up on the smoked salmon, and will save the pastries, buns and champagne for later on this afternoon.
The weather report at midday has the temperature at 28 degrees, winds at 30 kms per hour with 2 metre choppy seas.
As we move further up the Gulf of Suez the winds calms down as does the sea, but the temperature goes up. We reach our anchorage at the top of the Gulf about 4 pm. There is a light breeze and flat seas and it is 38 degrees. We are at anchor with at least 20 other ships. Apparently we all leave in a convoy tomorrow as we progress through the Suez Canal.
At 8 pm and it is a balmy 30 degrees. Tomorrow we enter the Suez Canal and there must be close to 30 ships anchored nearby, some small cargo and tankers and a couple of large container vessels. Looks like we’ve got us a convoy! Our newsletter tells us the convoy starts at 4 am!
