Another glorious Morning. We are docked in Civitavecchia the port of Roma. It is 26 degrees, sunny skies, no wind and dead flat seas. There are a lot of people going to Rome, but it is at least a 2 hour trip to get there, and if you go yourself you have to change trains. As we have done Rome we have decided to check out the local area and take it easy without having to rush around. It is going to be another hot day in the mid thirties.
There is a bus shuttle to a drop off point near the city. The port is quite large with container terminal, cargo ships, ferries and two other cruise ships, a Costa Diadema, and Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the seas. The Costa is a large ugly ship. The bus trip was about 15 mins.
After drop off we wandered around the streets, had some great views back over the harbour, visited the cathedral of St Francis of Assisi. It was a plain church from the outside, but very beautiful inside. We then went to the markets and I bought a couple of hats. I had left mine behind on the bus in Sri Lanka!
We walked along the city walls with more great views of the harbour and the Michelangelo fort and past some of the old walls.
It started to get hot so we headed back to the ship, arriving back on board about 1 pm. We decided to have lunch first then a swim and for me another ice cream. We headed back to our cabin about 3 pm for an ice cold Crownie. When we returned from the city I ordered a bucket of ice and the beers have been chilling since that time. We only lasted 15 mins on the balcony as the sun was directly on our balcony at 34 degrees, but the beers were lovely!
We went the the entertainment tonight a tribute duo to John and Paul. They were great. They dressed in the grey 60s suits with the hair and both had the mannerisms down pat. They did not try to mimic the voices and sang their own way which was great. There were only the two of them on stage and they played live. They used a sound track for the drums and George’s guitar. Even their repartee was good.
