Sunday 9 July Salerno

Another bright sunny morning. We awake to find we are already docked in Salerno, it is 26 degrees at 7 am and expected to get to 34. The docks are surrounded by marinas and it is a 200 metre walk to the Main Street. We are planning a leisurely day, as back on board is 6.30 pm, but it is a Sunday and not much is open before 10 am.

We head off to the gym at our normal time and we are the only two there. We have breakfast and then head ashore at 9.45. There is a long promenade walk along the shore. There is a stark open area in front of a semi circular apartment block which turns out to be the top of an underground car park. We then reach a small crowded beach with lots of families there. The walkway is now through a grassy and tree lined area, which provides some shade from the hot sun, it is now 30 degrees. We leave the promenade and head towards the buildings. There are lots of narrow alleyways and lanes, unfortunately nearly everything is closed. We find a lovely park and rest for awhile. We then continue on and end up quite high on the side of the town, which continues upwards for quite a way.

After about 100 minutes we decide to head back towards the ship and have a walk around the marina. It is very busy with lots of people planning to head off from the marina for a day of boating. It is a beautiful day for boating, sunny skies and little wind. There are motor bikes all along the marina as they prepare to go boating.

On our return to the ship we head straight to the pool for a refreshing swim! It is starting to get hot, so we lunch by the pool, I have another swim, and then we finish off with two cold beers! Shit,  life is tough!

We are late departing as a group of about 60 are late coming back on a ferry. As we leave there is music blasting from the terminal, which houses a bar and obviously some night life. As we move away from the wharf they start playing  it is time to say goodbye by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman! It was fantastic, I have tried to include a small video clip.
