We had planned to go to the gym early and then go off ship to catch a train to Glasgow. The trains run every 20 mins and it is a 30 to 40 min train ride, so we needed to plan our day well. We have to be back on board by 5.30. When we wake up it is 12 degrees and misty rain. After breakfast the temperature has risen to 13 and the rain is a heavier Scotch mist! We decide to forget about Glasgow and the train and hopefully the rain will clear by midday and we can walk around Greenock.
By midday it is getting a little lighter and the temperature has risen to 14 degrees.
We head off about 1.15. The wind is a little chilly. We have gone about 200 metres and a light drizzle starts. We continue on around the town and come across some solid buildings, nice gardens and a shopping mall. After wandering around the shopping mall and picking up some M&Ms we head outside and the drizzle has turned into light but persistent rain. We decide to head back and get back on board by 3 pm. It now looks like the rain has set in. We are glad we did not go into Glasgow where the weather was predicted to be similar. It would not have been comfortable coming back on a train when we may have been wet and cold. Time now to head off for a hot coffee and some cake.
We leave the berth just after 6 pm, it is 14 degrees and we are farewelled by a Scottish pipe band.
We have a sea day tomorrow on our way to Cobh Ireland.
Strange departure from Greenock. After we left the dock and reached the channel we were just going round in circles. The captain was just using the thrusters to turn us around in a circle without moving forward. I thought we might have grounded and he was trying to shift us off the bottom. Someone has suggested they were recalibrating the compass.
